The IT Technician works within the IT department of a company or in an IT services company. The main task of the IT Technician is to ensure the smooth operation of computer hardware and software. The IT Technician shall: Install, upgrade and develop the hardware and software; Manage the IT infrastructure including servers, workstations, printers, telephone systems, mobile devices, antivirus, magnetic cards, etc .; Maintain an inventory of hardware and licenses, including maintenance contracts; Provide technical support to internal and external users; Prepare and update documentation.

The IT Technician must have good general computer skills: operating systems (Windows, Unix / Linux), office software, PC and laptop, telephone, antivirus, printers etc. The IT Technician is primarily a resourceful person someone who loves to resolve technical problems and help users. The IT technician must demonstrate human qualities such as listening, patience and diplomacy. To work in Montreal, the IT Technician must have good communication skills and must be fluent in French and English.

To become an IT Technician, it is recommended to follow a technical computer training at the colledge level (DEC). It is also recommended to IT Technicians to update their knowledge by following specific courses and obtaining professional certifications relevant to their profession. Microsoft certifications are highly valued by employers who recruit IT Technicians.
